There are plenty of sites for those interested in the stock market. Here are some of my favorite sites:

1. www.investopedia.com- It has tutorials, a stock trading game, and a good financial dictionary. This is a good place to start learning about the stock market because it has specific sections for newbies.

2. www.pse.org.ph- This is of course the web site of the Philippine Stock Exchange. A good tool here is the stock trading game. It will get your feet wet "trading" stocks in the local market without all the pain.

3. www.financemanila.net - This is a local web site dedicated to investing in the local market. There are quite a number of active traders that regularly post here. The traders here use technical analysis over fundamental analysis. There's a thread here that gives you the link to some excellent books on technical analysis. Just search for books in this forum. Too bad stock analysts don't regularly post here.

4. www.bsp.gov.ph - This is the web site of the Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas. If you want to know what the latest interest rates were, then go here. BTW, the BSP regularly awards T-Bills every Monday afternoon. However, the requirements for investing in regular T-Bills are high.

5. www.bworld.com.ph - The only business paper in the country. It has a good section on the stock and current market, mutual funds, and interest rates.

The right thing for you to do right now is to read on the subject first. I would suggest that pick up "A Random Walk Down Wall Street" by Burton Malkiel. He provides a good start on how to invest your money wisely.

For those guys who don't have a lot to invest, I would suggest buying Index Funds. Index Funds are a specific type of mutual fund that only follows the PSE Index. Their operating costs are lower so you can get more returns for your money. You can open an account with a mutual fund for as low as PhP5,000. There are also options for automatic debit from your bank account every month so you will be forced to save. I just checked the mutual funds' performance at Businessworld this afternoon and I see that the Philippine Index Fund has the highest one-year return among mutual funds at 27.78%. In studies conducted for other stock markets, most mutual funds will underperform index funds over the long term.
